Intellectual Property and Information Technology Solicitor – Senior Associate /Salaried Partner

Our client is one of the leading firms in the South and their dedicated commercial IP team is one of the largest teams in the region.

We are looking to continue adding strength and depth to the team to run the in–house international trademark practice and manage a full caseload of commercial IP and IT work.

Ideally, you would be a minimum of 5 years PQE for associate or 10 years PQE for salaried partner, that said those of differing PQE who can represent the relevant attributes can progress. You will have knowledge of all areas of IP practice, including trademarks, patents, designs and copyright and be entirely commercial in your thinking. They always put themselves in the shoes of the clients and make decisions as if they are dealing with their own business.

You will have detailed knowledge and experience of trademark prosecution work – from preparing and drafting applications, through the examination and publication process to registration, including experience of oppositions (as both opponent and applicant) and appeals. You will be familiar with the foibles of the UK and EU IPOs and know your way around their websites. You will also have expertise in IP dispute work – advising on likelihood of success, drafting pleadings and liaising with counsel and drafting settlement agreements. International experience (pre–Brexit) would be of benefit but we are looking for you to be able to demonstrate an ability to manage multiple deadlines in multiple jurisdictions.

On the wider IP side, it is advantageous to have expertise in negotiating and drafting a range of IP agreements, from licensing to assignment, ownership issues and advising start–ups on the importance of recognising and protecting their valuable rights.

IT is also a large part of of the departments caseload and an ability to be able to negotiate, draft and understand how SaaS and PaaS agreements work and the difference between agile and waterfall developments would be preferred.

As a team, they are keen to build our junior members and so we are looking for you to participate in training and supporting the junior members of the team as their careers develop.
