Job Purpose:

As part of the Innovative Medicines US Legal group, the Director, Patient Services Counsel will provide strategic counsel to support the Innovative Medicines US business and its therapeutic areas. You will also provide counsel to management and other key decision makers with a significant focus on patient support programs across the Novartis portfolio.

Specifically, this includes the following areas:

• Legal Counsel/Leadership: Act as counsel on a broad range of issues, including patient program design, implementation, commercial contracting, and compliance oversight.

• Commercial Contracts: Provide legal counsel and risk management advice on commercial contracts with patient services' suppliers.

• Regulatory/Promotional Materials Review: Partner with privacy, regulatory, and medical colleagues to ensure timely review of promotional materials. Ensure coordination with other legal associates supporting brand to ensure consistency.

• Risk Management/Compliance: Partner with Ethics and Compliance to proactively identify and manage potential compliance risk.

• Innovation: Drive innovation and actively contribute to new strategies supporting business and contracting goals. Pursue calculated risk–taking in an unpredictable environment with appropriate contingency planning and continually challenge status quo.

• Functional Leadership: Actively contribute to Legal Function though participating in initiatives to build departmental knowledge and capabilities by sharing best practices.

Minimum requirements

What you'll bring to the role:

The ideal location for this role is East Hanover, NJ. However, a distant working arrangement, in the US, may be possible.

EDUCATION:
• Juris Doctor or equivalent degree is required

• Admission to New Jersey Bar or ability to obtain NJ in–house limited license

EXPERIENCE:
• 5+ years of related experience in a legal counseling role in the pharma/biotech industry or a significant healthcare practice at a law firm, is required

• Deep knowledge of US healthcare fraud and abuse laws and enforcement trends is preferred

• Familiarity with patient services programs and related legal, compliance, and privacy issues are strongly preferred

• Strong negotiation and conflict management experience is required

• Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical business and related legal issues

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
• Excellent business communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, and strong business acumen

• Good project management skills

• Strong analytical and organizational skills

• Ability to manage and influence across a cross–functional matrix organization

• Ability to manage high volume of work in fast paced environment
