Chemours is seeking a VP, Chief Intellectual Property Counsel to l ead and empower our high performing IP legal team on all intellectual property legal matters for the company. This role is part of our Legal leadership team, reports to our Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, and is located in Wilmington, DE.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsible for worldwide intellectual property strategy and management for a significant and growing patent, trademark, and trade secret portfolio, with active assertions and defenses, opinions of counsel, patent procurement, trademark registration, oppositions, trade secret protection and know–how, licensing, copyright and anti–counterfeiting enforcement.
Lead and empower a high performing in–house IP legal team in a dynamic environment of continuous transformation to collaborate with commercial business units, technology, and marketing to promote the discovery, development, management and protection of new ideas and associated IP. Help guide the incubation of new technology–driven businesses and business ventures that support, for example, the hydrogen economy, advanced electronics, electrification of transportation, and thermal solutions management
Manage relationships with outside counsel globally regarding IP matters including patent and trademark application, prosecution, maintenance and renewal, oppositions, trademark clearances and enforcement, and government grants.
Support the development and implementation of the IP strategy, processes, and protection in partnership with the General Counsel, Business Unit Presidents, Chief Development Officer, Chief Security Officer, Commercial, Litigation and M&A AGC's, and business Technology and Marketing leaders, and their global teams.
Formulate the company's IP portfolio development strategy to ensure alignment with the company's business priorities and advise on future risks and rewards.
Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of legal agreements for IP matters, including but not limited to, license agreements, material transfer agreements, sponsored research agreements, joint development agreements, laboratory and field trials, and confidentiality agreements.
Develop and manage annual IP budget and implement or oversee IP Management systems.
Work with export control and trade compliance on all technology–related matters.
To be qualified for this role, candidates must possess the following:
10+ years of demonstrated ability in developing and implementing IP strategy and counseling executive management on all matters relating to the acquisition, protection, licensing, and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
An excellent ability to grasp legal and business issues quickly; balance risks; exercise sound judgment; and provide practical, constructive, and timely counsel.
Demonstrated ability and desire to build strong relationships and work cooperatively with operating divisions, functions, and team members.
Familiarity working with regulatory and compliance issues affecting a Global IP portfolio.
Substantial experience working within the chemicals industry, and experience with Fluoropolymers and Fluorochemicals is desirable.
Ability to perform white space/ competitor and freedom to operate analysis for new products and technologies.
Experience with driving revenue generating opportunities through IP assertion and licensing.
Skilled at leveraging digital tools to provide value for customers.

Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
An active member in good standing of at least one state bar
USPTO bar admissions required.
