USA! US Research Analyst (IP) required by an exceptional global IP Litigation Practice law firm to support their complex IP requests and provide public record and literature research and analysis. The Research Analyst (IP) must have a full understanding of public and commercial IP resources and the fundamental basics of patent law, including 101, 102, 103, and 112. In this role, you will lead the development of the Practice support through providing training and promotion of resources to attorneys, advising on new products for purchase, and mentoring colleagues to enable them to provide complementary support to the Practice.

Main responsibilities include:

Conducting U.S. and foreign patent, literature and/or trademark searches and analysis
Identifying, summarizing, and providing analysis of court decisions and judgments that best support arguments, as well as those that counter the same arguments
Researching intellectual property–related activities, including patent litigation and licensing activities of specific companies and/or as they relate to certain markets
Providing research and support to patent attorneys on patent prosecution matters, licensing, and acquisition matters
Performing legal research using a variety of online resources and database systems
Conducting in–depth research and analysis of companies, sectors, industries, technologies, market segments, and competitors
Identifying and monitoring trends and key clients to aid client development efforts for IP practice groups
Research on trends in specific forums and judges, including records on motions and transfers
Supporting patent prosecution by assisting with technical content in communications with patent offices across the globe
Developing effective search queries and performing landscape, FTO, and patentability searches
Proactively analyzing and organizing search findings
Assisting patent attorneys, professional specialists, or paralegals in preparing client communications, reminders, reports, memos, and legal documents related to U.S. and foreign patent matters
Identifying extrinsic evidence for patent attorneys, including preparing excerpts from dictionaries/textbooks for submission with briefing

To be considered for this role you will need the following skills and experience:

Advanced expertise in the use of online patent research and retrieval services and the ability to champion and promote products
Solid understanding of IP workflows combined with a team–first ethic
Ability to communicate and collaborate across all departments and practice areas
Proven ability to build and develop relationships at all levels of the organization and credibility as an expert
Ability to manage expectations and negotiate deadlines
Excellent all round research skills in legal and business research
Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
Strong commercial awareness
Library and Information Science Degree, JD or MLS equivalent or equivalent experience
At least 5 years' experience in a senior research role
