Position Title: Senior Paralegal, Intellectual Property Position Location: Hershey, PA This position can be 100% REMOTE Summary: The Senior Paralegal, Intellectual Property ("Senior IP Paralegal") role will report directly to the Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property. Under attorney supervision, this position will provide high–level paralegal support in complex and highly confidential legal areas in furtherance of legal and business objectives related to the company's global business. This position will perform legal and business research and draft a wide variety of legal and business documents for review by supervising attorneys. Among other areas of responsibility, the Senior IP Paralegal will be responsible for managing the company's intellectual property docket for the IP portfolio assigned to this role, serve as the IP brand ambassador to his or her assigned brand teams, and work closely with the Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property to implement all facets of the Legal Department's enhanced service delivery model. Routine responsibilities will include providing operational and business assistance to attorneys; reviewing and investigating intellectual property matters; summarizing, organizing and prioritizing matters; working effectively cross–functionally; corresponding with outside counsel on matter management; and creating and maintaining databases used by the Legal Department. The candidate should have experience assessing and implementing legal best practices, including intellectual property strategy, docketing and E–Billing to increase productivity and efficiency. Major Duties/Responsibilities: Time % Summary of major duties: 1. 50% Provide operational and business assistance to attorneys on intellectual property–related matters Manage the company's intellectual property docket. Review and gather information necessary to support IP–related filings and challenges to potential infringement of the company's IP portfolio Manage process and workflow of trademark portfolio, including trademark searches, filings, prosecution, renewals and disputes (oppositions, cancellations, infringements, UDRPs and counterfeits) Develop a deep understanding of client businesses and their products to aid in proactive management of your assigned trademark portfolio. Assist corporate M&A activity, including the preparation and/or analysis of IP portfolios. Assist with the annual trademark renewal project Assist with management of outside counsel assigned to Hershey IP matters Assist in development of business guidance documents Conduct trainings to business teams on trademark and copyrights, as well as assist in producing educational materials for the business. 2. 25% Review product labeling, marketing, and advertising material to ensure appropriate use of IP assets 3. 25% Manage process and workflow of IP disputes (oppositions, cancellations, infringements, UDRP proceedings and counterfeits) Dimensions: Strong paralegal skills to conduct legal research, analyze issues and prepare/review drafts of legal documents, ensuring that they meet legal requirements and deadlines Ability to present statements of fact, law and basic legal strategy clearly, logically and concisely Ability to develop effective working relationships cross–functionally Independent self–starter with the ability to initiate and manage multiple projects for multiple attorneys simultaneously Flexibility to respond to multiple and often–changing priorities on a global level Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and follow through Excellent oral and written communication skills Proactively raise, recommend and resolve issues Ability to handle confidential information and develop trusting relationships, using a high degree of tact, discretion and diplomacy Ability to use sound judgment, work independently, set priorities and organize work to accomplish complex tasks efficiently within stringent deadlines High degree of skill in computer and information technology resources; specifically, but not limited to, Microsoft Office 365, Legal Tracker/Serengeti, and online court filing, docketing platforms. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred; Paralegal Degree or Certification required Experience: Minimum 8+ years of experience in law firm or corporate setting with: Outstanding time–management and prioritization skills Well versed in legal terminology, laws, judicial decisions, court jurisdictions and procedures Well versed in principles and practices of legal communication, techniques and methods Well versed in methods and techniques of legal research (electronic and book) Strong legal analysis skills, including the ability to read, interpret and apply statutory and legal requirements to legal and business matters Well versed in methods, practices, procedures and requirements for drafting a wide variety of legal documents Knowledge and/or relevant experience in: Intellectual Property Regulatory Commercial International Experience working with databases (docketing management, billing, case management, online court filings, etc.) Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access) The Hershey Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
