What does a successful Managing Counsel do at Fiserv?
As Managing Counsel, you will provide legal support to Fiserv's Digital Payment Solutions business encompassing the division's full portfolio of technology solutions including (i) financial institution bill payments, person–to–person payments, account–to–account transfers and other money movement services, and (ii) data aggregation and verification services. You will also provide legal support to teams that manage relationships with our largest financial institution partners. Major responsibilities of this role include preparing and negotiating client, vendor, and other related agreements; providing counsel to sales, account management, product, implementation, and technology leaders on legal matters; and liaising with company specialists regarding intellectual property, technology, privacy, security, regulatory, employment, and litigation matters. The position may include management responsibility for other Fiserv associates.

What you will do:

  • Work directly with business unit leaders to prepare and negotiate client, vendor and other technology–related and commercial agreements for the Fiserv Digital Payment Solutions business.

  • Advise business stakeholders on legal, contractual and risk matters impacting their areas of responsibility.

  • Provide consultation and legal advice with respect to strategic initiatives, technology projects, customer and vendor contracts, intellectual property, dispute resolution, regulatory matters, corporate policies and procedures, and administration.

  • Effectively interact with corporate specialists regarding finance, audit, tax, publicity/press, intellectual property (including patent applications), litigation, regulatory, privacy and technology matters that affect the business divisions.

  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and applicable legislation affecting the operations of the business divisions.

  • Develop and maintain forms of contracts and other legal documentation.

  • Perform other duties as required.


What you will need to have:

  • JD from accredited law school

  • Licensed to practice, or ability to become licensed to practice, in an appropriate jurisdiction

  • In good standing with State Bar with no disciplinary record

  • 8+ years of relevant experience negotiating, drafting, and redlining contracts and providing regulatory guidance.

  • Demonstrated negotiation skills and the ability to provide sound solutions to our clients. Knows when to escalate to appropriate business leads and division counsel.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify risks and provide effective solutions to stakeholders. Knows when to escalate to appropriate business leads and division counsel.

  • Up to 10% travel


What would be great to have:

  • Background in financial services industry or technology, business–minded orientation with a genuine interest in learning, understanding and contributing to the strategic direction of the business.

  • Strong knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to corporations in general, specifically technology services and software licensing companies.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Experience interacting with senior management.
