Job Description
Role Purpose
The Director, Content Security is a leadership position within the Intellectual Property Security & Technology team that will provide NBCUniversal's Film, TV, Streaming, Sports and Consumer Products businesses with guidance and services to reduce the risk of creative content (e.g., full–length movie, trailers, scripts, images) leaking to the public or unauthorized individuals, during the content creation and distribution lifecycle. This position will lead a team of security engineers and analysts, to ensure that optimal best practices for securely handling creative content are acknowledged and followed at NBCUniversal business units and external partners. This work includes overseeing a robust program of risk assessments for entities handling content. This position will work closely with legal, film security, cybersecurity, and other stakeholders to address any content security incidents, including remediation of any discovered issues. The position will provide guidance on technical advancements to reduce the risk of content incidents.
Job Duties
- Lead a centralized Content Security practice supporting all NBCUniversal business units
- Includes best practices, assessments, remediation, policies, awareness, incident management and technology expertise
- Content Security Best Practices
- Manage a team of subject matter experts supplying technical guidance encompassing both on–prem and application/cloud environments
- Engage with industry organizations and other internal stakeholders to review and update content handling best practices for content creation and distribution processes
- Risk Assessment program
- Oversee a program to assess content security risk in internal workflows and at external vendors and partners, including assessments by NBCUniversal and by accredited assessors in the industry–wide Trusted Partner Network (TPN)
- Manage communications with business units to identify content–handling vendors for inclusion in the program, create operational metrics to track status of vendors and their risk rating, and communicate status to business stakeholders
- Oversee internal team and processes to review results and perform ad hoc assessments
- Update internal risk ratings system as the industry and technology shifts to ensure that we are assigning appropriate risk levels, as needed
- Ensure vendors are actively remediating any deficiencies and keep the business apprised of their progress
- Coordinate with Cyber Security Global Risk team to ensure that all vendors have been properly assessed and documented
- Manage relationships with third party consultancies and assessors, including contracts and statements of work to deliver risk assessments
- Supply leadership to the TPN program, representing NBCUniversal
- Policy Management, Outreach and Education
- Catalog existing content–handling policies across NBCUniversal business units and update as needed. Create policies in partnership with business units where there are gaps
- Collaborate with Comcast and Sky to develop and deliver training materials and organize security awareness events, to create a culture of content security across the company
- Incident Response and Investigations
- In collaboration with Legal and other stakeholders, act as Incident Commander to spearhead content security investigations and communicate status to stakeholders
- Partner with Forensics team and Legal to gather critical information about leaked content
- Track all internal and known industry incidents related to the loss/theft of content. Provide reports on scope and root cause of incidents, to develop and implement remediation steps to prevent future occurrences
- Technology
- Provide technical solutions to business units, with an emphasis around secure content creation and distribution environments
- Oversee and manage current content authorization technical system, utilized across multiple projects and partners
- Evaluate and recommend new and emerging security products and technologies, in order to reduce risk of content leaks and gain efficiencies for content workflows
- Supply guidance on risks of new devices or applications to be used by the company
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, or related field; or equivalent experience
- Experience directly managing people
- Minimum five years' experience in the Film & TV technology space
- Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally
Desired Characteristics
- Experience in content security highly desired, including experience with: security tools and techniques, including encryption, DRM (Digital Rights Management), watermarking, fingerprinting, secure transfer and storage, network security and asset tracking
- Experience creating workflow maps using tools like Microsoft Visio, and documenting creative content workflows in media and entertainment
- Experience managing programs related to securing content or reducing risks through on–site and remote security assessments
- Video or Audio Engineering experience in content production and or/ distribution highly desired
- CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) Certificate desired
- Ability to interact with executives and business personnel at all levels
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience delivering information to executive management
- Superior organizational skills
- Comfort with managing multiple complicated projects in parallel, including the creation and tracking of project milestones
- Ability to build strong and lasting relationships
