Chemours is seeking a Trademark Paralegal to join our growing Legal team! This is a hybrid/remote position that will report directly to the Chief IP Counsel at our Wilmington, DE location.

The Trademark Paralegal position on the Legal Department’s IP Legal team supports the Company’s global trademark, copyright and trade dress portfolio. This includes renewing and maintaining the portfolio, docketing, global clearance and prosecution, and assisting the Trademark Team Lead and outside counsel with aspects of the global protection and enforcement of trademarks, copyrights and trade dress.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Triaging communications incoming to Company’s trademark legal email address from government trademark offices and outside counsel, docketing and filing the communications as appropriate

  • As the IP Legal team member responsible for the information in the trademark docketing database, keeping the database current on due dates, action taken, and status changes, and staying current on provider’s changes to the database architecture, to maintain the integrity of the Company’s trademark portfolio data

  • Reviewing dockets regularly for due dates and sending reminders to business clients and Trademark Team Lead as needed

  • Conducting preliminary searches via internet and electronic databases and reviewing results of comprehensive searches from outside counsel, both domestic and international

  • Preparing and filing trademark applications and instructing international counsel on new application filings, managing the prosecution of trademark applications including office action responses and replies to other substantive issues encountered during prosecution, especially in the USPTO, EUIPO, WIPO and other major jurisdictions worldwide

  • Managing the global trademark renewal process by reviewing and ascertaining the accuracy of the service provider’s renewal schedule, interacting directly with and guiding business clients and brand managers through the renewal process including reviewing the description of goods, and instructing and overseeing timely trademark registration renewals, including payment of invoices

  • Working directly with business clients and communications colleagues to gather and submit needed proof of use evidence

  • Preparing formal documents for filing, prosecuting, renewing, assigning and enforcing trademarks by obtaining necessary information, signatures, notarizations, legalizations, and copies of other necessary documents and submitting them to appropriate government offices, customs offices, and domestic and international counsel

  • Reviewing invoices for prosecution, clearance and renewal services

  • Providing support for acquisition and divestitures, including due diligence, preparation of schedules, and initial drafts of related documents, support for trademark licensing, and support for domain name enforcement

The following is required for this role:

  • 3-5 years applicable substantive trademark paralegal work experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, with demonstrated ability to work both with a team and independently, and working knowledge of oppositions, cancellations, brand protection and enforcement

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Excellent organizational ability including managing priorities and meeting deadlines, and  attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, and ability to work closely and build relationships with domestic and international business clients, domestic and international outside counsel

  • Strong research and analytical skills, and proficiency with Windows-based software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

 

The following is preferred for this role:

  • ABA Approved Paralegal Certificate or equivalent

  • Experience with screening and watching tools such as Corsearch™

  • Experience with Anaqua (AQX) trademark and conflict management system or other portfolio management software management systems
