Qualcomm, a world leader in the development of wireless technology and products, relies on its valuable patent portfolio to generate substantial revenue for investment in research and development. Qualcomm seeks talented and motivated patent attorneys to apply their legal, technical, and communication skills with engineers and business units to develop high–quality, high–value patents throughout the world. Candidates should understand the technology, business plans, product roadmaps, industry practices, domestic and international patent laws, and desire to work in a cooperative atmosphere to achieve these goals. Specific responsibilities include portfolio management, managing outside counsel for strategic preparation and prosecution of patent assets, drafting patent applications, drafting responses to official communications, interviewing examiners, performing patent analyses including infringement, clearance, patentability and validity analyses, and collaborating with counsel across multiple jurisdictions to ensure compliance with local jurisdictional practices and laws. Other responsibilities include participating in design–around analysis, license and contract analysis, and performing due diligence analysis for potential acquisitions and investments.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school.
• Patent Attorneys working in the US must be registered at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
• US: Admitted to a state bar in good standing.
• 2+ years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, or litigation experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of patent law experience at a law firm or in–house.
  • 3+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience in software, electrical, communications, or related fields.
  • 2+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in software, electrical, communications, or related fields.
  • 2+ years of managing a portfolio, including budgets.

Pay range:

$150,500.00 – $225,500.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales–incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
