Patent Analyst II, Intellectual Property

The individual will perform Freedom to Operate/Patentability searches and analysis in support of R&D, and manufacturing projects.


Essential Duties and Job Functions

The individual will attend R&D project meetings, will work with IP attorneys to help file new patent application, and provide searching support to additional IP related projects.

The individual will spend the predominant amount of their time on tasks such as fact gathering, background research, structure and sequence searching, patent landscapes, analysis of data and presentation of findings. The individual will use public and proprietary chemical and patent databases to conduct searches.


Education & Experience

  • 5+ years of related experience and a bachelor's degree or 3 years relevant experience with a master's degree.
  • PhD in Organic Chemistry/Biochemistry/Biotechnology is highly desired
  • Registration as patent agent a plus
  • Experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries preferred
  • Experience with scientific databases (Scifinder, PubMed, Informa, Patbase, Cortellis, etc)
  • Experience with both structure and sequence searching a plus
  • Must have strong client services orientation
  • Self–motivated, creative, diligent, excellent interpersonal skills, and attention to detail


The salary range for this position is: $129,540.00 – $167,640.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock–based long–term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
