Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with inventors, researchers, and clients to identify patentable inventions in the biotech field and develop effective patent prosecution strategies.
  • Conduct comprehensive patent searches and prior art analyses to evaluate patentability and support the drafting of high–quality patent applications.
  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), including drafting claims, responding to office actions, and conducting examiner interviews.
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients on patent portfolio development, management, and enforcement.
  • Conduct due diligence assessments and provide support in patent litigation matters when required.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in biotech, patent law, and regulatory frameworks to provide cutting–edge advice to clients.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the firm on interdisciplinary matters, such as licensing agreements, technology transfer, and IP transactions.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the Bar association and a license to practice law as a patent attorney.
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.Sc., or equivalent) in a relevant scientific field, preferably in biotechnology, genetics, or a related discipline.
  • Admission to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Bar.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on biotech, either in a law firm or corporate setting.
  • In–depth understanding of U.S. patent laws, regulations, and procedures, as well as familiarity with international patent systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to comprehend complex scientific and technical information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
