The Product Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to the Product team on a variety of matters related to insurance products, including product development, marketing, and sales. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of insurance law, retail law, consumer protection law, and intellectual property law.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and counsel to the Product team on all aspects of insurance product development, including product design, pricing, and marketing materials.
- Draft and negotiate contracts related to insurance product development, distribution, and claims.
- Conduct due diligence on potential insurance product acquisitions and partnerships.
- Protect the company's intellectual property rights, including trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
- Respond to consumer inquiries and complaints.
- Represent the company in regulatory investigations and litigation.
Qualifications:
- JD degree from an accredited law school.
- 3+ years of experience in insurance product law, with a focus on retail and consumer products.
- Strong understanding of insurance law, retail law, consumer protection law, and intellectual property law.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem–solving skills.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Experience with the product development process, from ideation to launch.
- Experience with marketing and sales, including product positioning, pricing, and distribution.
- Experience with regulatory compliance, including state insurance regulations.
- Experience with intellectual property litigation.
