We are seeking a dynamic and detail–oriented Contract IP Paralegal to join our fast–paced legal team. This role is an exceptional opportunity for a talented individual with a keen interest in Intellectual Property Law, and a passion for supporting a team in a vibrant and progressive legal environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of our intellectual property practice, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters. This is a contract position requiring at least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the preparation and filing of patent applications and other documents related to patent prosecution and maintenance.
2. Conduct legal research and provide legal information to attorneys regarding changes in IP laws and regulations.
3. Maintain, update, and manage a comprehensive IP database, ensuring accurate data entry and timely updates.
4. Track costs associated with patent prosecution and maintenance, including preparing cost estimates and tracking actual costs against estimates.
5. Prepare, review, and file documents such as assignments, declarations, power of attorney forms, and information disclosure statements.
6. Coordinate with outside counsel on various IP matters, including providing necessary documentation and information.
7. Perform due diligence in connection with potential acquisitions and investments, including IP portfolio analysis and risk assessment.
Qualifications:
1. An associate degree or paralegal certification is required. A bachelor's degree is preferred.
2. At least 2 years of experience as an IP paralegal, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
3. Solid understanding of Intellectual Property Law and Patent Law.
4. Proven experience with database entry and cost tracking.
5. Proficient in document preparation and legal research.
6. Exceptional attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
7. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
8. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast–paced environment.
9. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
10. Proficiency in using legal database software and Microsoft Office Suite.
