WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a commercial generalist attorney to join our in–house Legal team. This role will work closely with all departments within our agencies and will focus on:
  • Assessing and mitigating risk;
  • Reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts with clients and suppliers;
  • Providing practical legal advice to the agencies on a large variety of topics;
  • Issue spotting for concerns regarding data privacy, insurance issues, intellectual property, etc.; and
  • Determining the applicability of insurance policies.
The Corporate Counsel may have the opportunity to specialize or focus on specific topics of interest to The Opus Group, depending on experience, interest and availability. These topics may include data privacy, content licensing, technology, talent contracts, corporate governance, insurance, and claims and settlements.

This role will involve processing a high volume of "legal tickets" (inbound requests for legal support) typically involving contract review and/or complex legal questions, and typically under time pressure. The ideal candidate will be able to switch between topics/assignments multiple times per day, think quickly on their feet, provide legal advice that is right–sized to the level of risk, tempered with common sense, and communicated in plain, concise language.

YOU SHOULD HAVE
  • JD from an ABA accredited law school
  • Membership in good standing of at least one U.S. State Bar
  • 5+ years' generalist legal experience, preferably including litigation and/or commercial transactions
  • Growth mindset – curiosity to learn and desire to expand into new areas of the law
  • Prior negotiation experience – whether in litigation or contracts
  • Ability to learn business requirements quickly, analyze legal and commercial risks, apply common sense, and propose creative solutions while minimizing risk
  • Adaptability to work with a wide array of communication styles and sophistication levels across all levels within the agencies
  • Ability to apply knowledge learned in one context to a wholly different situation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to:
    • build trust with internal business teams to successfully work through contract challenges;
    • effectively and concisely communicate complex legal issues to a non–legal audience, both orally and in writing; and
    • connect with other legal counsel and clients to structure a deal amenable to all
  • The ability to work effectively as a Legal Department teammate, with the flexibility to take lead or provide support on projects as needed
  • Ability to assess, calibrate, communicate, and address evolving priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Initiative, attention to detail and collaborative working style
  • Desire to learn from and teach your Legal Department teammates and employees throughout the company
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze, present, and advise on corporate and business law issues;
  • Transactional – draft, negotiate and advise on Service Agreements, Statements of Work and other contracts with clients and suppliers for event management, production, creative, digital, advertising, talent and strategy services;
  • Technology and Information Security – the position will build up to reviewing and negotiating software licenses and SaaS contracts for business infrastructure and event technology; Data Protection Agreements with clients and suppliers; program risk assessments; advise on technology and data security topics related to virtual and in–person events;
  • Corporate – governance, commercial leases, litigation, employment, insurance;
  • Effectively manage time and priorities, in a high–volume, fast–paced environment;
  • Clearly explain contracts, risks, requirements and regulations to non–legal colleagues;
  • Collaborate in drafting, updating and enforcing policies and guidelines with your teammates and coworkers alike;
  • Research and anticipate unique legal issues;
  • Facilitate compliance and legal training; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

HOW WE'LL TAKE CARE OF YOU

The starting salary for this role is between $120,000 – $128,000. Our salary ranges are based on third–party national average market compensation analysis. The actual salary is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
