The Vice President, Corporate Legal role provides a unique opportunity to become a trusted advisor to multiple lines of business and cross–functional stakeholders. Snapshot of the Team The Legal Division oversees all legal matters pertaining to the organization, including performing shared services for several subsidiaries and coordinating with our parent company and other overseas affiliates. This talented and dynamic team is dedicated to the structuring, negotiation, execution, and related legal support for product sales and distribution (direct and indirect through dealers/distributors/resellers), new product/services development activities, software licensing, advertising/marketing, social media, litigation/commercial disputes, employment law, privacy and information security/governance, intellectual property, IT, procurement, joint ventures and collaborations, customer support, real estate, and corporate governance. Responsibilities Your Impact – Provide strategic leadership and direction on legal matters, setting clear objectives and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. – Identify and assess legal risks associated with business activities and develop effective risk mitigation strategies. – Draft, review, negotiate, and drive to resolution a broad range of agreements related to product sales and distribution, software licensing, marketing and advertising, privacy, procurement and other areas, as dictated by business needs. – Lead strategic planning, budget and expense management, operations, policies, and staffing for the Legal Division. – Oversee legal matters handled by outside counsel. – Maintain a customer–centric focus and drive continuous improvements to Canon's legal processes. – Develop a strong rapport to collaborate with Canon's leadership team and key stakeholders across the organization. Qualifications About You: The Skills & Expertise You Bring – Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent or an LLM/LLB professional designation – Must be a member of the New York State Bar Association – 20+ years of progressive legal experience in a corporate and/or law firm setting – Proven track record in complex commercial transactions, contracts and other areas of law described above – Solutions–oriented strategic thinker with sound judgment and the ability to provide practical advice by balancing business needs with legal risks – Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, adept at building partnerships and working collaboratively across teams to meet shared objectives – Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively communicate complex legal matters to executives and non–legal stakeholders – Ability to multi–task, working on own legal matters while advising/consulting colleagues on multiple projects and issues on matters they are handling and performing general managerial tasks – Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to resolve complex legal matters What Will Set You Apart – Proven leadership experience in a corporate legal department or in–house counsel at the VP/senior management level is preferred Who We Are Talent Fosters Innovation. We are providing the anticipated base salary range for this role; $291,000 – $436,000. This role is eligible for a MBO bonus under the terms of an applicable plan.
