We are looking for an experienced Lawyer for this Senior Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs Manager role within our BBC Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs (CRBA) Commissioning team. This is a permanent role primarily based in London, however, we would be open to discuss basing the role in Salford, Glasgow or Cardiff.
CRBA manages and connects the BBC's Intellectual Property, strategic and business interests through expert negotiation, contracting and commercial deal–making. It is comprised of multiple business teams embedded in BBC Content (including Film, Television, Radio & Music, Children's & Education, Sport), News, Technology & Product, the Nations, plus a central CRBA team. The teams share many common business activities key to the commissioning, production and distribution of the BBC's services and content. Also, the teams work with the BBC's professional services including Finance, HR, Legal, Editorial Policy and Strategy.
The Commissioning team is a multi–disciplinary team, responsible for the business deal making and ongoing management of contracts and risk involved in the commissioning and acquisition of programmes for the BBC channels, BBC Sounds and iPlayer.
This is an exciting opportunity at a pivotal time for the BBC. You will be instrumental in helping the BBC to deliver Film to BBC audiences across all its platforms (channels and iPlayer) securing rights and managing risks across the portfolio of programmes.
Although you may be assigned to a particular CRBA area and workload, from time to time you may be required to work in other areas of CRBA to broaden knowledge, skills and experience.
All CRBA colleagues are 'agile workers' and our expectation is that they will work an average of 2–3 day per week in BBC buildings.
As a Senior Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs Manager, you will provide senior management across the CRBA Commissioning team, leading on strategies for rights acquisition, commissioning and managing legal risk. You will also be expected to lead on a portfolio of more complex deals.
Are you the right candidate?
This is a key role, building and maintaining senior level relationships, both internal and external to the BBC. It's an exciting and challenging time and this is a unique role, conducting large–scale commercial negotiations and providing support across a number of key strategic partnerships.
This role has a particular responsibility for BBC Film in the BBC's Scripted commissioning area and therefore candidates should have prior experience of working in the UK film industry, including production, funding, sales and distribution. You will need to be legally qualified for this position.
You will also bring an excellent understanding of Film and TV business, including business affairs and sales & distribution. In particular, you will have the skills and knowledge to work with internal and external senior industry stakeholders to help realise BBC's content ambitions both in the UK & globally.
A sound understanding of content production and related risks with an understanding and experience of exploitation of all ancillary rights. A track record of having led and delivered complex projects within both time and budgetary constraints is required. Supporting this will be your strong analytical and numeracy skills, and clear understanding of programme budgets and financing, and your ability to solve problems creatively, and implement decisions.
You will have personal impact and the ability to influence BBC senior decision makers. You will have clear understanding of BBC and CRBA strategy and a determination to deliver against that strategy and related objectives.
This will all be underpinned by a high level of negotiation and communication ability and experience.

Location: This role is primarily based in London, however, we would be open to discuss basing the role in Salford, Glasgow or Cardiff, with some flexibility – i.e. hybrid working
