Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Chief Counsel Commercial Transactions, the Counsel, Environmental and Transactions will provide legal support for environmental matters and certain contract matters on an enterprise–wide basis. You will counsel business and other cross–functional partners on a wide variety of environmental compliance activities as well as assist with negotiating a number of commercial arrangements

Position Responsibilities

Provide legal advice on environmental regulatory and permitting issues across Conagra's manufacturing facilities.
Propose and execute legal strategy for managing Conagra's legacy environmental sites, including a number of Superfund and Superfund–like sites inherited from prior acquisitions.
Work with environmental consultants and outside counsel to assist in cost–effectively remediating environmental contamination.
Negotiate with Federal and State regulatory bodies regarding environmental compliance issues, including stipulation agreements and consent decrees.
Draft, negotiate and execute a wide variety of commercial agreements (e.g., contract manufacturing, distribution, licensing, promotional, foodservice, supply, R&D, consulting/service, etc.).
Negotiate directly with counterparties regarding pre–litigation contract disputes.
Advise business on contract risk and negotiation strategies.
Partner with other legal team members to service cross–functional projects, for example, large marketing campaigns, intellectual property licensing, and third–party food quality claims.

Position Qualifications

Licensed attorney with 5+ years of experience in environmental matters at a law firm or corporate legal department.
Meaningful experience negotiating with environmental regulatory bodies.
Experience with managing and advising on plant environmental permits, e.g., wastewater and air permits.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, think critically, manage complex projects, learn new areas of law, and solve problems.
Some experience negotiating commercial contracts.
Able to effectively use external counsel within budget constraints.
