The role:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, as Head of Legal and Compliance you will be responsible for leading and overseeing all legal and compliance matters within the organisation. You will have a dotted line into our wider IAG legal structure and sit on the Finance Leadership team. You will work closely with the executive team and other stakeholders to ensure that the company operates in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. This includes providing strategic legal and compliance advice, managing legal and regulatory risks, and developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance across the organisation.

How you will add value:

  • Leading a team of 8, including specialisms such as contacting, data privacy, compliance and risk
  • Provide strategic legal and compliance advice to the leadership team and other stakeholders on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters related to the loyalty business, including but not limited to data privacy, consumer protection, intellectual property, contracts, and corporate governance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that impact the loyalty business and provide guidance and recommendations to the company to ensure compliance.
  • Manage relationships with IAG's General Counsel, external legal counsel and oversee the resolution of legal disputes and regulatory inquiries.
  • Collaborate with cross–functional teams, including Commercial, Marketing, Product, Data, Tech and People, to ensure that legal and compliance considerations are integrated into business processes and initiatives.
  • Conduct internal compliance audits and risk assessments to identify potential areas of concern and develop appropriate corrective actions.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on legal and compliance matters, including conducting compliance training programs and workshops.
  • Monitor and report on legal and compliance metrics and performance to senior management and the board of directors.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities, industry associations, and other relevant stakeholders to stay updated on industry trends and best practices.

What you will need for success:

  • UK qualified lawyer – circa 5 years + PQE, with a mixture of both private practice and in–house experience.
  • Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to loyalty programs, data privacy, consumer protection, intellectual property, contracts, and corporate governance.
  • Proven experience in providing strategic legal and compliance advice to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance across an organisation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal and compliance concepts to non–legal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast–paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem–solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities and legal counsel.
  • Professional certifications in compliance, such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), CIPP/E Certified, Certified Anti–Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), or similar, are a plus.
