Position Summary

The role of Labor and Employment Counsel at Empower Pharmacy is integral to our commitment to fostering a workplace environment that values our employees and operates with the highest standards of legal compliance. This position is pivotal in guiding our organization through a broad spectrum of labor and employment law issues, ensuring that we uphold our core values of people, service, quality, and innovation. As a key advisor to the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, you will provide strategic legal updates and expert advice on labor laws, employment practices, and immigration matters, influencing decisions that impact our workforce and organizational integrity.

You will actively contribute to labor and employment law proceedings, manage external legal partnerships, and collaborate with our Legal and Human Resources teams to address employee disputes and legal inquiries. Your role extends beyond legal counsel; it involves managing immigration cases and ensuring clear communication with our sponsored visa applicants, supporting our diverse workforce and reinforcing our commitment to inclusivity.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel in a broad range of labor and employment law related issues involving Empower.
  • Provides expert and strategic legal updates and advice to the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel on labor and employment law and immigration matters.
  • Contributes to labor and employment law and immigration proceedings and other necessary legal activities as needed.
  • Manages outside counsel relationships and invoices.
  • Coordinates and assists Empower's Legal Team as necessary for investigations, anticipated or ongoing litigation, or other legal matters; coordinate with Human Resources to assist with the investigation and resolution of employee disputes.
  • Provides support on employment–related legal issues.
  • Manages immigration cases and provides clear communication to Empower's sponsored visa applicants.
  • Oversees sponsored visa applicants.
  • Reviews Empower policies based on potential and ongoing employment law matters and forthcoming changes to the law and regulations.
  • Engages comprehensively in legal tasks and matters including but not limited to litigation, regulatory/compliance, contracts/agreements, corporate governance, mergers & acquisitions, intellectual property, privacy, and cybersecurity.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor degree required.
  • License to practice law in Texas.
  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant legal experience with labor and employment law matters.
  • Experience negotiating and drafting complex agreements required.
  • Experience with litigation, regulatory issues, contracts, corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and/or finance is preferred; over 6 years' of relevant experience preferred.
