Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide a wide range of legal services and advice to the company. Will report to the Deputy General Counsel and work with employees at all levels. Will assist Corporate Counsel manage company affairs within one or more particular areas of the law (e.g. real estate, litigation management, intellectual property, contract review and negotiation, compliance and government relations). Will work with outside counsel on a variety of legal matters.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

70% – General Legal Services: This functional area covers general typical advice and counseling to HQ, Stores, and operations; ranging from contract review and negotiation, litigation management, intellectual property, employment issues, real estate and overall support and management of the Company's legal risks.

25% – Compliance, Regulation & Government Relations: This functional area includes existing compliance and regulation oversight. Also included are oversight of product and safety recalls and compliance, as well as government and trade association relations (on legislative and legal matters).

5% – Records Management & Information Governance: Managing the Company s obligations with respect to document requests (litigation and governmental) and the maintenance and implementation of our information retention/destruction schedules.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor s and Juris Doctorate degrees required

  • A Juris Doctorate degree from accredited law school and active state bar license in good standing, of at least one US State Bar and willingness to commit to membership in the Oregon State Bar

  • 1+ years experience in practicing law or equivalent practical law school experience

Required Technical Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Google sheets, Google docs, Google sites and Google mail

  • Proficient with internet based programs

  • Knowledgeable of contracts and vendor management

  • Knowledgeable of data analytics

  • Knowledgeable of legal service request systems

General Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Experience in an environment with expectations for deliverable quality and timeliness

  • Mature problem–solving skills with the ability to collect and use data to drive decisions

  • Strong presentation skills. Ability to synthesize and present information

  • Ability to maintain versatility in style and approach to suit the audience most effectively

  • Ability to present and discuss legal concepts to legal and non–legal employees

  • Effectively to meet deadlines

  • Attention to detail

  • Growth mindset – ability to adapt to new learning and training

  • Ability to work on their own and take initiative when presented with tasks

  • Experience with employment related legal matters (e.g. protected leave, wage and hour) a plus
