As Ironclad's General Counsel, you'll lead more than just legal affairs; you'll be at the forefront of guiding the company through its next phase of growth, acting as a strategic business leader. The Legal team reports to the Chief Financial Officer at Ironclad and is a critical thought partner to the executive team as they contemplate strategic business decisions. It's about being proactive, not just reactive, as you shape and protect the future of our company.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead an innovative Legal function at the world's leading AI Legal Solution. As a power user of Ironclad's own digital contracting platform, you will be expected to implement the latest product features and use our technology in creative and useful ways. Your work will be followed by thousands of companies that look to Ironclad for inspiration & innovation. Additionally, you will be responsible for spearheading and developing community programs evangelizing Ironclad's mission, products, and values. As part of a close–knit, results–driven, and collaborative Legal Team, you will play an important role in maintaining and shaping the culture, objectives, and execution strategy of the Ironclad Legal Team and the entire company.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the CFO, CEO, and executive leadership team to define and drive all Legal function strategies, operations, and partnership practices.
  • Oversee and manage the entirety of Ironclad's legal matters, including but not limited to, commercial, corporate, employment, compliance, risk mitigation, and intellectual property. Drive Legal function strategic investments that prepare Ironclad's Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs department to contribute the most value to our stakeholders in an increasingly fast–moving and complex environment.
  • Understand the company business objectives; anticipating issues and evaluating risks strategically to provide legal advice that enables the executive team to make bigger, better decisions faster.
  • Lead the legal team's growth by managing recruitment, training, and professional development to foster a culture of high performance and innovation. Regularly assess team performance, develop succession plans for key roles, and mentor staff to enhance decision–making and service delivery.
  • Help drive legal and CLM thought leadership in partnership with Community, Sales, Marketing and other Go–to–Market functions.
  • Actively elevate our company image through public engagements and thoughtful outreach programs. Cultivate strong relationships with essential legal and business stakeholders across our ecosystem and represent the company prominently at industry events.

Requirements and skills

  • 15+ years in corporate law practice with a proven track record of leading in–house Legal teams
  • In–depth understanding of how legal issues impact different parts of the organization
  • Ability to develop Legal strategy and objectives
  • Financial acumen and IPO readiness experience
  • Excellent judgment and analytical skills
  • First class interpersonal and communication skills
  • Track record of cultivating professional communities that connect strategic company initiatives to commercial outcomes
  • Deep understanding of the modern Legal tech stack and surrounding LegalTech ecosystem
  • JD from an accredited law school and admission to the CA Bar

Base Salary Range: $280,000 – $330,000

The base salary range represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position based at our San Francisco headquarters. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors, including individual proficiency, anticipated performance, and the location of the selected candidate. Our base salary is just one component of Ironclad's competitive total rewards package, which also includes equity awards (a new hire grant, along with opportunities for additional awards throughout your tenure), competitive health and wellness benefits, and a commitment to career growth and development.
