This is an exciting opportunity within a large organisation to partner with the wider business in providing legal advice and support on a range of topics including consumer law, data protection, intellectual property, anti–bribery and competition law.

The role requires a solicitor with circa 6–8 years' post qualification experience in commercial law. Excellent knowledge and understanding of commercial contracts is essential due to the high volume of commercial contracts work within the department.

What you'll be doing

You will provide general legal advice to the business as well as creating and improving processes to enhance the efficiency of the department. Reporting into the Director of Legal you will have the ability to pick up the medium to high value work within the team and provide support to other members of the team when workloads are high. In addition to these duties, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Drafting, negotiating, and preparing all supporting documentation in relation to a broad range of large commercial contracts including client and supplier agreements.
  • Advising on a broad range of contractual issues and disputes.
  • Creating and carrying out training for the business on legal policy and relevant laws.
  • Supporting special projects, including new product development.
  • Keeping abreast of, and advising on, developments in law and regulation.

What you need to show us

The successful Commercial Solicitor will have circa 6–8 years' post qualification in commercial law and have an excellent knowledge and understanding of commercial contracts. Ideally you will have gained experience in a similar in–house environment or a leading law firm.

You will be comfortable communicating with external and internal stakeholders at all levels and be able to support and challenge colleagues if necessary. In addition to this you will also be able to demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Solicitor qualified in English law.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Very commercially aware.
  • Practical common–sense approach.
  • Enthusiastic team player.
  • Able to work effectively and multi–task in a fast–paced in–house environment.
  • Excellent communicator with the confidence and credibility to support the commercial and operational teams.
  • Communicates complex concepts with clarity.
  • Effectively manages multiple stakeholders and builds strong internal relationships.
  • Self–motivated.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Presents a case and responds to challenges effectively.
  • Anticipates problems and plans for timely avoidance / limitation.
