Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. is seeking a Director Patent Attorney to develop global IP strategies around key molecules, platforms and other technologies to ensure Regenerons long–term competitive advantage. This unique in–house opportunity will be part of a high–performing team of IP practitioners devoted to protecting Regenerons innovations derived from Regenerons cutting–edge science and numerous collaborations, including over 75 collaboration agreements executed in the past 5 years.

The patent attorney will enable key synergistic collaborations and acquisitions by providing IP transactional and due diligence support in close partnership with colleagues in the R&D, clinical, regulatory, legal, business and alliance management departments at Regeneron. This role will also advise on emerging legal issues, including monitoring and reviewing case law and legislative developments, and is expected to contribute to administrative and legal projects intended to develop an IP Department displaying the highest legal and ethical standards.

As a Director, Patent Attorney – Portfolio Development a typical day may include:

  • Conducting strategic IP due diligence, including analyzing Regenerons IP portfolio as well as the portfolios of our competitors and potential collaborators;
  • Identifying opportunities for expanding Regenerons IP position and working with members of various business, legal, scientific, alliance and administrative groups within Regeneron to take advantage of such opportunities;
  • Providing IP transactional support for a wide variety of business transactions, including research collaboration and licensing agreements, clinical agreements, master services agreements, clinical trial agreements, MTAs, consulting agreements, vendor agreements, and confidentiality agreements;
  • Monitoring internal and external developments around key molecules, platforms and other technologies to provide IP strategic support for early–stage collaborations after execution;
  • Providing support for strategic brand protection, including trademark and domain names, and copyright issues; and
  • Managing the use of outside legal counsel and internal resources, as may be necessary, to fulfill the aforementioned responsibilities.

This role may be for you if you have:

  • Ability to understand complex biological technologies and associated legal issues.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including presentation, interpersonal, writing and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to independently oversee legal matters, manage the use of outside legal counsel and work collaboratively with other personnel at Regeneron.
  • Ability to set aggressive deadlines, handle multiple complex legal matters and see projects through to conclusion.

Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate and admitted to practice in at least one state, New York preferred.
  • 5 –10 years in–house and/or law firm experience.
  • Ph.D. in biological sciences is required, immunology a plus.
  • Registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Ideal candidate will have a broad range of patent–related legal expertise. Experience in patent preparation and prosecution or IP litigation, IP due diligence, strategic counseling and licensing required.

Salary Range (annually)

$198,000.00 – $330,000.00
