The Legal team is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the company, including providing legal counsel across the organization, handling disputes, and creating and enforcing intellectual property.

Role Overview

The primary role of Senior Legal Counsel – Product is to advise and partner with ResMed's Product teams on all ongoing activities related to the organization's legal affairs with a specific focus on the North Americas region. Key deliverables include providing legal strategy and advice on a broad range of corporate matters including: consumer and competition law, technology transfer, global privacy law and regulations, advertising, healthcare and medical device regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice to product teams on complex legal issues impacting medical technology providers and medical devices within the healthcare industry.
  • Interact with all levels of management and major customers, advising and influencing senior leaders on legal issues associated with developing and launching new products and digital technology offerings.
  • Identify and navigate solutions to potential issues that implicate compliance with anti–kickback, privacy, and other relevant laws.
  • Support leaders in global product teams, privacy, intellectual property, and the global legal team to ensure alignment of legal, commercial, compliance, and regulatory goals.
  • Coordinate activities with global counterparts to deliver repeatable and predictable legal advice to product managers and global commercial lawyers.
  • Supervise outside counsel on issues and projects outsourced by the legal department, as needed.
  • Support the Product teams in integrating digital products into offerings to customers and patients.
  • Additional responsibilities require knowledge of general corporate matters, corporate governance, licensing technology, medical device regulations, and general healthcare laws and regulations.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and law degree from an accredited law school, eligible for California in–house registration.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in medical device, product, or technology–related businesses.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, CCPA, CPRA, PIPEDA, LGPD, GDPR, and other privacy laws preferred.
  • Ability to define and resolve complex problems with practical thinking and in–depth knowledge of organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrated versatility and sound judgment, with a curiosity to tackle and learn matters outside of expertise.
  • Strong cross–functional collaboration skills and ability to strategically prioritize in a fast–paced environment.
  • California resident preferred; remote location may be considered for the right candidate.
  • Experience working on global projects or across cultures is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills.
  • Business–savvy and creative approach to problem–solving.

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is: 166,000–250,000 USD.
