The Practice Support Services Department of Arnold & Porter has a Senior Paralegal opening supporting the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group in the Washington, DC office. The Senior Paralegal provides high–level Intellectual Property & Technology litigation paralegal support under the direct supervision of attorneys on various client and firm matters.

Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Filing and retrieving documents at courthouses and government agencies, including USPTO PTAB, Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. District Courts.
  2. Assisting with drafting, reviewing, cite–checking and preparing PTAB, Federal Circuit and District Court filings.
  3. Assisting with the electronic discovery process, including the collection, preservation, and review of materials for eventual production.
  4. Tracking incoming and outgoing productions and assisting with the preparation of privilege logs.
  5. Establishing and maintaining case files, document collections, and chronologies.
  6. Drafting correspondence.
  7. Compiling materials for witness interviews and depositions.
  8. Assisting with trial preparation and trial set up; Organizing trial exhibits and notebooks and developing charts and graphs; Maintaining exhibits as well as taking notes at trials and assisting with trial presentations.
  9. Developing information retrieval systems with an emphasis on use of computerized litigation support.
  10. Checking citations, Bluebooking, and proofreading legal documents.
  11. Conducting computer searches, research and case management functions on client databases or firm resources such as Opus 2, Relativity, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, HighQ/Engage and the Internet.
  12. Collaborating with eData department on computer issues regarding electronic discovery and other matters.
  13. Pulling cases and obtaining resources from local libraries.
  14. Assisting with coordinating and supervising teams of contract attorneys on document review projects.

Qualifications:

  1. Four–year college degree strongly preferred.
  2. Excellent academic record.
  3. Paralegal certificate preferred.
  4. Minimum of five years of IP litigation paralegal experience.
  5. Prior Experience with USPTO PTAB, U.S. District Court, and Federal Circuit Court of Appeals matters.
  6. Familiarity with Relativity, Opus 2; Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, HighQ/Engage, and other case management and e–Discovery tools.
  7. Strong writing skills.
  8. Superior organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a large workload efficiently and effectively.
  9. Highly detail–oriented with a strategic focus.
  10. Excellent oral communication skills.
  11. Exceptional interpersonal skills, a commitment to professionalism, integrity, and collegiality.
  12. Proven ability to multi–task and set priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast–paced environment.
  13. Exceptional problem–solving skills, critical thinking abilities and the ability to work well under pressure.
  14. Flexibility to work overtime as necessary, including nights, weekends, and travel, as necessary.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $96,500 to $119,500. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
