Registered Patent Attorney – North Barrington, IL
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Registered Patent Attorney to join our Intellectual Property team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent law, with experience in patent prosecution, drafting, and advising clients on complex intellectual property matters. As a Registered Patent Attorney at Kelleher+ Holland, LLC you will play a key role in helping our clients protect their innovations and navigate the intricacies of patent law.
Key Responsibilities:- Patent Prosecution: Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and internationally.
- Patent Drafting: Draft high–quality patent applications, including claims, specifications, and supporting documents, across a range of technical fields.
- Client Counseling: Provide strategic advice to clients on patentability, infringement, validity, and other intellectual property issues.
- Portfolio Management: Assist clients in managing and optimizing their patent portfolios, including conducting IP audits and due diligence.
- Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on patent–related matters, including case law, statutes, and regulations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with inventors, in–house counsel, and other stakeholders to understand client goals and develop effective IP strategies.
- Litigation Support: Provide support in patent litigation cases, including preparing legal arguments, conducting discovery, and assisting with trial preparation.
- Business Development: Participate in client development activities, including networking, presenting at industry events, and contributing to marketing efforts.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- 3–7 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably in a law firm or corporate environment.
- Strong technical background in fields such as electrical engineering, computer science, biotechnology, chemistry, or mechanical engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong analytical and problem–solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Admission to the state bar in IL or ability to obtain admission.
