Trademark Paralegal

Schwegman Lundberg & Woessner specializes in:
Strategic patent portfolio planning and management;
* Infringement, validity and clearance investigations;
* Opinions; and
* All phases of intellectual property prosecution practice. This includes:
* preparation and prosecution of patent applications;
* appeals
* post-grant proceedings, interferences; and
* foreign oppositions.

SLW cooperates with and advises clients' litigation firms regarding their intellectual property litigation. In this fashion, SLW is able to provide its clients with a realistic appraisal of litigation risks and can better fulfill its mission of providing the highest quality corporate IP services available. We currently have an opening for an experienced Trademark Paralegal in our Minneapolis, MN office or working remotely. Applicant should have at least 5-8 years experience in U.S. and International trademark work. Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong computer skills are a must.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Coordinate the filing, prosecution and maintenance of trademark applications at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. 

Initiate foreign filings and coordinate and correspond with foreign trademark agents concerning foreign trademark applications. 

Prepare draft applications and other documents for our customer’s attorneys to review and file same.

Communicates with trademark office personnel regarding routine matters as directed by our attorneys.

Monitor prosecution deadlines.  Ensure thorough communication and proper responses are provided.

Prepare status charts for clients.  Succinctly convey detailed information. 

Communicate and correspond with clients concerning new and pending applications. 

Conduct online trademark searches and other investigatory functions. 

Organize, maintain and update files and docket information related to client’s trademark portfolios.

Coordinate processes and provide follow-up on project management, including ability to anticipate future requests based on knowledge of past transactions. 

Develop trademark processes and procedures.

Provide guidance and training to other paralegals as needed.

Run reports requested by clients; respond to client questions on the status of applications.

Maintain knowledge of Patent Office rules and procedures.

Prepare special reports and cost estimates.

Perform other tasks as directed by management.

Education and/or Experience: At least 5-8 years Trademark Paralegal U.S. and International experience preferred.
